Unveiling RANDOM Metal

Hey everyone,

We’re excited to unveil RANDOM Metal, a drum synth that’s been brewing in our minds for quite a while. If you’re into unconventional sounds and enjoy the thrill of happy accidents, stick around – this one might be for you.

The Synth Engines Behind the metal.

Think of RANDOM Metal like an album. Over the past year, we’ve crafted around 100 to 150 synth engines, but we kept only the 20 absolute best. We also included variations, kind of like remixes, to spice things up. You can read more about each individual synth HERE.

This approach might seem a little “open work”-ish. We see these synth engines as pieces of art in their own right, ready for you – the artist – to shape into something new. It’s a pattern you’ll find in a lot of our work since the early 2000s.

A tool built for US, Shared with You.

We build tools we want to use ourselves. Always have. We crave tools that help us generate interesting sounds in non-conventional ways. The whole idea is about opening up the possibility of happy accidents. We want to break free from samples and rigid sounds and explore what else is out there.

A Different Kind of Synth than most are used to.

The goal with RANDOM Metal was not  to provide a tool for those who don’t want to learn synthesis. We wanted to create a unique, explorative synthesis technique and present it in a new way. We worked hard to make something that feels different to use and provides inspiration through exploration.

When I open RANDOM Metal, I might be searching for a rimshot, but I could end up with a melodic line and a wild cowbell sound—then eventually, I’ll get back to that rimshot.

If you’re looking for a more traditional synth experience, there are plenty of great ones out there (Tomofon and Chromaphone are two of our personal favorites). But none of the synths we know can produce sounds quite like RANDOM Metal.

How to Use RANDOM metal.

RANDOM Metal is a replacement for those one-shot drum sample packs. It also complements other synths in your collection.

It offers a different kind of experience, not something that competes with the regular, straightforward synths and their traditional UI or controls. It’s something more—something unexpected.

Most of our team are lifelong musicians, and we know our way around synths. But we wanted to build a tool that would help us discover new, surprising sounds while jamming and making tracks.

RANDOM Metal vs. the original RANDOM, what’s the difference?

Just to be clear, RANDOM Metal is not an update to RANDOM. It’s a different plugin altogether, with wildly different synth engines, controls and possibilities.

Updates to the Original RANDOM are coming!

Speaking of the original RANDOM, we’re currently working on an update adding a lot of cool stuff. One of which is adding the ADSR controls to its complex envelope system (there are a lot of crazy envelopes running in the background!). This update will be released next and will be free for all RANDOM owners.

Thanks & Takeaway

We’ve had amazing support and feedback from the community, and we want to give back. That’s why the big update for the original RANDOM will be free, 1 year from launch. It will make the original RANDOM plugin seem like a new plugin in its own way.

If we want everyone to know and understand one thing, it’s that we are artists ourselves and we make unique tools for unique artists. We believe our plugins stand out with their unique qualities, offering something truly distinct.
